How to play

How to play jigsaw puzzles online.

The rules are simple: find pieces that belong together, connect them, and keep building until the image is complete. Here is how the controls work on desktop and mobile.

Start with the edge

Turn all the pieces face up and look for the ones with a straight outer edge. Building the frame first gives you a boundary for the image and makes it easier to see where the inner pieces belong. On a large puzzle, sort the remaining pieces by colour or by a feature such as sky, water, trees or buildings.

Drag, connect, and move groups

Drag a piece with your mouse or finger. When two neighbouring pieces are close to their correct relative position, they snap together. Once connected, the group behaves as a single object: drag any piece in the group and the whole group moves. This is the key to finishing a large puzzle without moving every piece separately.

Use Fit and Board

The loose pieces sit around the central board. Use Fit to zoom out and see everything, and Board to focus on the puzzle area. If you are zoomed in, drag an empty part of the board to pan. Use the mouse wheel or a two-finger pinch to zoom.

Choose a difficulty

Every puzzle can be played at 24, 48, 96 or 192 pieces. The image is the same, but the piece size and number of connections change. Begin with 24 pieces if you want a short break, 48 for a relaxed session, 96 for a standard challenge, and 192 when you want to settle in for longer. The actual number of pieces may be slightly different because the grid follows the shape of the image.

Progress and returning later

Your board is saved automatically in your browser on this device. Close the tab and come back to the same puzzle page later; press Play and the game should continue from the saved position. The save is local, so it does not follow you to another device or browser.

Small tips that help

  • Build the border first, especially on 96 and 192 pieces.
  • Sort by a strong colour or texture rather than by shape alone.
  • Connect small groups before trying to move them into the board.
  • Use Board when the loose pieces make the image hard to read.
  • Take a break; your progress will be waiting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a puzzle piece?

Drag a single piece with your mouse or finger. If pieces are already connected, dragging any piece in the group moves the whole group.

How do I zoom in and out?

Use the mouse wheel or a two-finger pinch on a touch screen. Drag an empty part of the board to pan around the puzzle.

What does Fit do?

Fit zooms out so you can see every piece. Board focuses on the central puzzle area. Both are useful when the loose pieces fill the screen.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Progress is saved locally in your browser on the device you are using. You can close the tab and return later, but progress does not sync between devices.

What is the best piece count for a beginner?

Start with 24 pieces for a warm-up, then try 48. A 96-piece puzzle is a comfortable longer session, and 192 pieces is for a more deliberate challenge.
